Evolution of my Passions

As I looked up the definition for passion, I was astounded at the diversity of the definitions.  The one that jumped out at me the most was this: an intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction.  Wow!  Those are some powerful words.

I believe we are all filled with passion.  I also believe that our passions change as we evolve and mature into different stages of life and different stages of spirituality.

When I was a young child, my passion was music.  My life revolved around music.  It is what I surrounded myself with and what filled my days.
I was lucky enough to have parents that were willing to feed my passion at any cost.  My parents sacrificed many things in order to help me achieve my dream of singing.  They spent countless dollars on vocal training, costumes, contest entry fees, and gasoline driving me from festival to festival to perform.  I loved every minute of it!  But as my life changed, as I grew up, my passion changed.
I still love to sing and adore music, but I have more powerful pulls in my life.

When I was a freshman in college, my passion changed.  His name was Paul.  I woke up thinking about him.  I wanted to be with him every minute of everyday.  I went to sleep thinking about him.  I am lucky enough to have married that man, my passion.  I now get to spend the rest of my life with him.  I am still passionately in love with him but have filled my life with even more.

Then came my children.  If you are a parent, you know them intense emotions wrapped around having children.  I will do anything for my "babies".  It is my job to love them, protect them, and provide for them.  They are always in my thoughts as I make any decision.  Will they be proud of me later for this decision I made?  But my life was still not "full."

My passion now is answering God's calling when he said "whatsoever you do to the least of these, that you do unto me."  I am so very lucky to have found my passion through Christ.  He spoke about so many things in the Bible.  It is overwhelming to act on all His instructions with "an intense, driving, overmastering conviction."  So, I have decided to focus on one instruction; the one listed above.

Please do not mis-interpret this.  I believe every instruction in the Bible is important.  I try very hard to live a life of Godly example.  I pray that my life will lead others to Him.  However, my PASSION is currently in serving the children of God.

I pray that you know your passion.  If you don't,  take some time to look to the Word, pray and ask Him what he has called you to do.  Callings and Passions do not have to be something extravagant and over the top.  Just simply an overmastering conviction that fills your mind and your soul.
